Man Of Sorrows (Hillsong)

Man Of Sorrows! What a Name Hymn 246

Call to Worship Romans 6:9-10

Leader: We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

All: For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.

Prayer of Adoration

Behold Our God

Who has felt the nails upon his hand,
bearing all the guilt of sinful man?
God eternal, humbled to the grave,
Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign!

Chorus    Behold our God, seated on his throne.

                Come let us adore him.

                Behold our king, nothing can compare,

                come, let us adore him!

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today  Hymn 277

Crown Him With Many Crowns Hymn 295 (5th verse not in hymnal)

Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o'er the grave;

and rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save.

His glories now we sing, who died and rose on high;

who died eternal life to bring and lives that death may die.

Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

Confession of Faith*  Heidelberg Catechism Q & A 45

Leader: How does Christ's resurrection benefit us?

All: First, by his resurrection he has overcome death, so that he could make us share in the righteousness which he had obtained for us by his death.  Second, by his power we too are raised up to a new life. Third, Christ's resurrection is to us a sure pledge of our glorious resurrection.

Scripture Reading                                             John 20:24-29, Pew Bible p. 907

24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” 26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Confession of Sin adapted from Ephesians 2:1-3

All: And we were dead in the trespasses and sins in which we once walked,

following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, among whom we all once lived in the passions of the flesh carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

Silent Confession

Assurance of Pardon 2 Corinthians 5:21

Leader: For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Further Reflection

*Take some time to read the words and sing the songs before Sunday and rejoice in the Lord. This will help you to engage in the singing, especially if the songs are unfamilar.

*Sin has separated us from God, but Jesus has done away with our sin by his death and resurrection and therefore we can have a full, intimate relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Do you come to the worship service as someone who is separated from God?
