Prayer #100: For the 4th of July During the Coronavirus Renewed Outbreak
The 4th of July this year will be a scaled-down holiday in many areas of our country due to the COVID-19 comeback. Beaches in some places, most notably parts of Florida and California, will be closed for the holiday weekend. One of the ways the resurgence of the virus has expressed itself is in the lowering of the average age of infection from 49 to 39. Because of this, a number of states have closed bars or limited the sales of alcoholic beverages in order to discourage the gathering of younger people and thus limit the possible spread of the virus. Fireworks and large-scale municipal barbeques have been canceled in many places. At least in a few states, gatherings of more than ten people are forbidden. It will be, for most of us in the United States, a more subdued celebration of this national holiday.
Pray that this 4th of July weekend would not be an occasion for the COVID-19 virus to accelerate its renewed pace. Pray that even in view of the restrictions, Americans would nonetheless celebrate with gratitude in their hearts the great freedoms we have been given in this country, even in the midst of living with some temporary restrictions. Pray that we, as Christians, would especially be thankful to God for the gift of freedom He has given to us here in the United States.
1 Thess. 5:16-18: "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
