Prayer #103: For the Possible Spread of COVID-19 Through Street Protests
Civic officials from some U.S. cities believe that at least some of the recent resurgence of the COVID-19 virus in the country is due to the failure to wear masks and maintain social distancing during the ongoing street protests. These protests have attracted large crowds in which people are in close proximity to one another. Chanting and singing during the protests have added to the risk of the airborne spread of the virus. In the hospitals of many cities, doctors working with COVID-19 patients are asking them if they took part in one or more protests. They are finding that many of them have. They are also advising those that have participated in protests get tested for the virus. Los Angeles and Miami are two major cities where officials have stated that the protest gatherings may have played a significant role in the recent renewal of the number of Coronavirus cases. It has been emphasized in this context that protests if they are peaceful, are the constitutional right of every United States citizen. With the COVID-19 virus still very much in evidence, however, considerable caution is needed when it comes to mass gatherings---not just protests, but other large-group assemblies such as political rallies, outdoor church services, sports events, etc.
Pray that there would be much greater caution taken in large assemblies across our country. Pray that masks would be worn and social distancing observed at these gatherings. Pray that as these measures at these assemblies are taken, along with the many other measures being taken in indoor public places across the nation, the Coronavirus would begin its descent soon.
Ps. 34:18: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
