Prayer #118: For the Waiving of Driver's License Road Tests During the Coronavirus Crisis
Several U.S. states have waived the requirement of a driving test in order to receive a driver's license during the COVID-19 outbreak. North Carolina, Georgia, and Wisconsin are three of those states. In mid-June, NC Governor Roy Cooper signed a bill that came through the NC Legislature that allows teen drivers to receive a limited driver's license without having to have a road test. This has been waived to help prevent the spread of the virus. Those who qualify for this waiver are 16- and 17-year-olds who have a Level 1 Learner Permit for at least a year, have completed at least 60 hours of supervised driving, including night driving, and have not had a moving violation or seat belt/cell phone violation in the last six months. Ultimately, they will have to take a road test once the COVID-19 virus subsides, but no date for the resumption of road tests has yet been set.
Pray for these young people who are temporarily getting their driver's licenses without this important final step of a road test. Pray that they would drive cautiously and responsibly. Pray for wisdom as they drive, and for God's protection over them as they do so. Pray too for wisdom for the Department of Motor Vehicles in North Carolina and other states to know when to reinstate the road test for drivers' licenses.
