Prayer #130: For the Lack of Hugs and Physical Affection During the COVID Crisis
During all this time of the Coronavirus crisis, hugs and other forms of physical greeting and affection such as handshakes or pats on the back have been largely restricted. This has been a hard thing for many people. Indeed, studies have shown that there is a condition known as "touch-starved." Scientists have identified a nerve ending called C-tactile afferents, that recognizes physical touch. Oxytocin is released when this nerve ending receives physical touch, which brings feelings of joy, love, calmness, etc. It greatly alleviates a sense of loneliness and depression. And, when such physical touch is lacking, as there is now, there can be such things as anxiety, melancholy, stress, and sleeplessness.
Pray during this time of a deficit of hugs and physical touch. Many people are really longing for these things and are hurting because of the lack of them. Pray that the time will come soon, with the descent of the COVID-19 virus, that there can be many hugs, many handshakes and many pats on the back. In the meantime, pray that all would look to our God to receive the profound affection that only He can provide.
Rom: 12:10: "Love one another with brotherly affection."
