Prayer #132: For Education Worldwide During the Coronavirus Crisis
According to the United Nations, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the largest disruption of education in history, with schools closed in 160 countries, affecting more than a billion students. In addition to this, more than 40 million children have missed their pre-school year prior to elementary school. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated in a 26-page policy briefing released today that the world is now facing "a generational catastrophe that could waste untold human potential, undermine decades of progress, and exacerbate entrenched inequalities." He added further: "We are at a defining moment for the world's children and young people. The decisions that governments and partners take now will have a lasting impact on hundreds of millions of young people, and on the development prospects of countries for decades to come."
We want to surely pray for schools and education worldwide in this historically unprecedented time of disruption. Pray that it would possible for in-person classes to resume soon, especially in countries where virtual learning is less possible. Pray also for home learning in the meantime. Pray that parents would work closely with their children to ensure that some learning is taking place in the home, either through virtual classes or through home studies.
Ps. 6:2: "Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled."
