Prayer #135: For Coronavirus Restriction Enforcement in Many United States Cities
A number of cities in the nation are taking increasingly-severe steps to enforce the COVID-19 restrictions that are in place. In Los Angeles, for instance, there has been an effort to crack down on large house parties in mansions in affluent areas, gatherings that attract hundreds of people. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti has announced this week that residences that repeatedly host these large gatherings will have their power and water shut off.
Some cities have stiff fines for not wearing a mask in public. In Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, for example, it is $100 for the first offense. In Houston, it's $500. In the entire state of New Mexico, it's $100 for not wearing a mask.
There are many cities that are now requiring that people coming to the city from a region where the Coronavirus cases are elevated must self-quarantine for 14 days after arriving. These include Chicago, Washington, D.C., and New York City. In Chicago, people coming from 22 states and Puerto Rico are required to self-quarantine. This is enforced with fines of between $100 and $500 per day. New York City has now taken the step of establishing checkpoints at all of its bridges and tunnels into the city, where identification is checked, and they are required to fill out a traveler's form indicating what states they have been to and when, where they would be staying while in New York, name and birth date, among other information.
We pray for wisdom, especially for the mayors of our larger cities in the United States, as these more drastic steps are being taken. Pray that as traveling between states and cities is discouraged, that this would have a salutary effect on the spread of the virus. Pray for the COVID-19 virus to wane and that God would show these municipal leaders when these measures can be relaxed and rescinded.
Is. 26:4: "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock."
