Prayer #141: For Bankruptcies During the Coronavirus Crisis
More bankruptcies have already occurred in 2020 than in some time. To date, there some 420 companies---larger companies (with over 2 $million in assets that are not small businesses)--- across the nation have declared bankruptcy. Thirty-five of these companies reported over $1 billion in liabilities. These bankruptcies are by and large due to the months-long COVID shutdowns. Especially hard hit have been retail and grocery stores, restaurants, and energy companies.
Here is a partial list of these companies:
Art Van Furniture
Ascena Retail (Loft/Ann Taylor/Lane Bryant/Catherines)
Briggs and Stratton Corporation
California Pizza Kitchen
CEC Entertainment (Chuck E. Cheese)
FoodFirst Global Restaurants
Garden Fresh Restaurants (Sweet Tomatoes/Souplantation)
Hertz Car Rental
Le Pain Quotidien
Lord and Taylor
Lucky Brand Jeans
Modell's Sporting Goods
New York and Company
Noah's Event Venue
The Paper Store
Pier One Imports
Sur La Table
Tailored Brands (Men's Wearhouse/Jos. A. Bank/Moores Clothing for Men)
Each of these companies represents many people that had been employed, but which now have been laid off or soon will be. Pray for the literally hundreds of thousands of employees and their families affected by these bankruptcies. Pray for new jobs to be found quickly for the many who are out of work. Pray for economic recovery, even in the midst of the pandemic, so that this rash of bankruptcies would cease. Pray that all who are now in economic trouble would run to God and that they would experience His care and provision.
Ps. 34:10: "Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing."
