Daily Prayer During the Coronavirus Crisis

Prayer #145: For Lasting Immunity After COVID-19 Infection

Yesterday, a report was released on a series of studies that indicate that those who have had a mild COVID-19 infection---with little or no symptoms---develop a strong and lasting immunity to the virus. The investigations, which still have to be peer-reviewed, demonstrated that antibodies and immune cells that are able to recognize and "remember" the virus was still present months after the COVID infections subsided. These results are being met with considerable relief on the part of many virologists who were concerned that the virus might be able to in some way trick the body's immune system into not recalling the virus.

"This is exactly what you would hope for," said Marion Pepper, one of the immunologists who worked on the study. "All the pieces are there to have a totally protective immune response." Many scientists believe that these investigations point to the fact that the body has a very good chance of fighting off the virus if re-infection occurs. "This is very promising," Smita Iyer, a University of California immunologist said. "This calls for some optimism about herd immunity and potentially a vaccine."

We prayed earlier about the development of immunity to COVID-19 among the greater population, and now, with this latest study, we pray again. Pray for lasting immunity for those with previous COVID infection, and pray that with this, in conjunction with the development of a vaccine, the Coronavirus would die away.

Ps. 62:8: "Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us."
