Prayer #151: For the Recent Reduction in the Reported Rate of COVID-19 Cases in the United States
For the sixth day in a row, daily totals of reported COVID cases have been less than 50,000 in the United States. This is down from daily totals of over 70,000 in late July. Part of this reduction in the number of new cases of the virus may be explained by the fact that the amount of testing has also decreased---from a 7-day average of 736,237, about a week ago, to 709,796 currently. This comes after a high demand for testing came in July, which led to laboratory backlogs and delays in reporting. Some states have now decided to focus their testing on those exhibiting symptoms or who are at higher risk of infection.
In addition to the lowering of daily Coronavirus totals nationally, there are other hopeful signs. For instance, hospitalizations for those with the virus have declined across the country. On August 20, there were a reported 41,988 people hospitalized for COVID-19. This was down from 47,228 a week earlier. In addition, the percentage of positive tests is down. It was 6.48% for August 20; a week before it was 7.50%, and 8.48% a month before. This appears to be a very encouraging sign.
Pray for a continued reduction in the active cases of COVID-19 across the nation. Pray that deaths from the virus, which are still lagging behind, in spite of the hopeful numbers above, would now begin to decrease also. Pray that the number of hospitalizations would also keep going down. Pray especially today that God, by His mercy, would intervene with His strong arm to eradicate this virulent pestilence.
Ps. 147:5: "Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure."
