Prayer #170: For Children Infected with COVID-19
It has long been known that children are much less susceptible to the COVID-19 virus. Nonetheless, a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) states that to date, more than half a million children have tested positive for the virus. Children represent about 9.8% of all cases of the virus in 49 states and the District of Columbia, plus New York City, Puerto Rico, and Guam. In the past two weeks, the number of Coronavirus cases in children increased by 16% in the U.S. states and territories, as 70,630 new cases were reported.
Thankfully, it is much rarer for a child to develop a serious COVID-19 infection or die from the virus. Children make up just 0.7 to 3.7% of those hospitalized from the pandemic. In 42 states, children made up 0 to 0.3% of all COVID-19 deaths. In 18 of these states, there were no deaths of children from the disease. On the other hand, studies have suggested that children, though themselves not seriously symptomatic, can pass on the virus, though to what degree remains an uncertainty.
Pray for God's protection of children during the Coronavirus pandemic. Pray that they would not contract serious infections of COVID-19. Pray for the Lord's healing for children currently ill with the virus. And pray that they would not readily pass it on to others.
Ps. 36:7: "How precious is your steadfast love, O God. The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings."
