Prayer #195: For Retail Businesses During the COVID-19 Crisis
As a consequence of the Coronavirus crisis, some retail stores have thrived, while others have gone out of business. In the latter category, for instance, are clothing stores. J.C. Penney, Neiman Marcus, and Brook Brothers, for example, have all filed for bankruptcy.
Many more stores have closed their doors than opened them during the 6/1/2 months of COVID-19. Since April, in fact, 5,000 stores in the U.S. closed, and only about 680 stores opened.
Grocery stores have seen a 31% sales increase since the onset of the virus, and e-commerce, in general, has seen soaring upticks in business. Since people are at home more, businesses such as Home Depot and Dick's Sporting Goods are doing extremely well.
Small businesses, as a rule, have been hurt very badly by the pandemic. Many of them, family-run and relying primarily on foot traffic, have already closed their doors, and it is expected that more will do the same before COVID-19 runs its course.
Let's indeed pray for America's retail businesses during this protracted COVID-19 crisis. Many of them are still trying to hold on, but, because this crisis is lasting much longer than initially anticipated, the coming months will be economically critical for them. Pray too for those who have lost jobs because of the business closures that have already taken place. Pray for the Lord's provision for those who are presently unemployed.
Rom. 15:13: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
