Prayer #196: For Worldwide Mental Health Services Impacted by COVID-19
According to a recent survey by the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health services have been disrupted or halted in the vast majority of the world's nations, just at a time when these services are needed more than ever. The survey states that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, greater than 60% of countries around the globe have reported disruptions to mental health services for vulnerable people, including children and adolescents (72%) and elderly adults (70%).
Many countries have employed telemedicine and teletherapy to take the place of in-person care, but while 80% of high-income nations did so, only 50% of low-income countries did.
Mental health services are now needed more than ever since for some the pandemic has brought with it fear, anxiety, bereavement, agitation, depression, and other challenges.
Pray for the great need for mental health services around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pray for those suffering from various mental and emotional conditions. Pray that services could be improved, especially in under-resourced countries, so that people can get the help they need. Pray especially during this time for a world-wide move to God, the source of the deepest and most profound comfort.
Job 5:11: "The lowly He sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. "
