Prayer #200: For the Current Level of COVID-19 in the United States
This past Friday, 58,539 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the nation. This is the highest daily level of the virus since August 14th. The overall baseline of U.S. daily cases is approximately 40,000. Health officials report that new cases are rising in 33 states through the South, East, and Midwest. In particular, COVID-19 cases are surging in the Great Plains states of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Currently, Wisconsin's hospitalizations for people suffering from the virus are at its highest levels. Most of these states have a higher (greater than 10%) percentage of positives from COVID-19 tests (North Carolina's positive % is presently 6%).
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases and White House advisor for COVID-19, stated last week that he is concerned at the current level of the virus in this country as we move into the colder months. He would like to see the daily level of the virus much lower, less than 10,000 a day. He said that "you get concerned because it is more difficult to deal with the respiratory borne virus, as people begin to go indoors more. And if you start seeing upticks, the way we're seeing it, and you have a baseline that's 40,000 and stuck at 40,000, that's not the optimal position to be in as you enter into the fall and winter."
Pray that the cases of COVID-19 would decrease over the coming months as cold weather sets in. In particular, pray that the positive test percentages, the most direct indicator of the advance or retreat of the virus, would decrease this fall. Pray for wisdom for civic leaders, particularly governors and mayors, as well as public health officials, as they are continually faced with decisions on measures to be taken.
Ps. 145:18: "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth."
