Prayer #202: For Movie Theaters as the COVID-19 Crisis Prolongs
The largest movie theater chain in both the United States and the world, AMC, has just announced that if the business doesn't dramatically improve, it may run out of cash reserves by the end of the year. The theater chain has reopened 494 of its 598 theaters, but with the COVID-19 virus still continuing to manifest itself, attendance at theaters is down 85% from last year. Compounding this is a lack of new movies since film studios have repeatedly postponed movie releases, hoping that the virus will finally run its course. Other theater chains are also in trouble. Regal, for instance, has closed their theaters again after having reopened them in August. Many industry experts are concerned that if the COVID situation does not improve soon, there will be much less theater capacity available when the virus finally does run its course, since at least some of the major theater chains may close permanently.
Pray for those working at movie theaters during this time of the COVID-19 crisis. Prior to the onset of COVID-19, there were 92,000 people employed at theaters. That number has considerably dwindled. Pray for new work for those who have lost their jobs at movie theaters. Pray for the theater industry itself, as it struggles to survive. Especially pray that this would be a time for the industry to assess itself. Pray for God to move in the hearts of those in all of the film industry.
Ps. 94:19: "When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul."
