Prayer #211: For Spain During a New COVID-19 Outbreak
As of yesterday, Spain became the first country in Western Europe to have more than one million confirmed cases of COVID-19. Thus far, 34,366 people have died from the virus in that nation. Early on, in March, Spain shut down completely to counteract the onset of COVID-19, which peaked on March 26 with about 9,100 cases per day. Then the virus greatly subsided, with cases in the nation by June only in the 200-300 per day range. But in the latter part of July, the cases started rising precipitately. Yesterday, there were recorded nearly 17,000 cases in one day. In this second, larger wave of the virus, 80% of the cases are in people age 15-49, whereas in the first wave this past spring, this age group made up only 50% of the cases. Though there is considerable reticence to locking the country down again, Spain's minister of health Salvador Illa is meeting with regional health officials to consider ways to contain the spread of the virus. One possible step would put a curfew on partying, which is believed to be a major source of contagion, there and throughout Europe.
Pray for the country of Spain as it battles with a serious renewal of COVID-19. Ask God to give His wisdom to those such as Salvador Illa who are charged with taking the necessary steps to try to contain the advancing virus. Pray for God's mercy for this nation, and that this COVID-19 spike would quickly abate. Pray that God would use this to spark a great move of His Spirit in Spain.
Ps. 112:4: "Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; He is gracious and full of compassion, and righteous."
