Prayer #222: For the Potential COVID-19 Treatment Drug Aprotinin
A team of researchers at the University of Kent in the United Kingdom, Goethe-University in Frankfurt, and the Hannover Medical School have identified a promising drug for the treatment of patients infected with COVID-19. The drug is Aprotinin, a protease inhibitor that fights SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 by inhibiting the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into host cells, and at the same time may compensate for the loss of host cell protease inhibitors upon infection by the virus.
Aprotinin is used in the treatment of influenza in some parts of the world and has been tolerated extremely well by flu patients. It is believed to be potentially very effective for COVID when applied early after diagnosis.
Pray that any additional studies that need to be done on Aprotinin could be undertaken promptly. Pray for confirmation investigations to be completed. And pray that this indeed could prove effective and even life-saving in the treatment of COVID-19.
