Prayer #224: For Potential False Positives from Rapid COVID-19 Tests
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a warning that the use of rapid antigen tests for COVID-19 may lead to false positives, particularly if the test is not performed properly. The FDA indicated that it has received reports of some false positives in nursing homes and other health care centers. Reading the test results either before or after the test's specified time can result in faulty results. Mishandling the test, or not storing it properly before use, can also lead to erroneous conclusions. Maintaining the purity of the test sample is also of vital importance, the FDA stated. "Be careful to minimize the risks of cross-contamination when testing patient," the FDA warned. "Insufficient cleaning of the workspace, insufficient disinfection of the instrument, or inappropriate use of protective equipment (for example, failing to change gloves between patients) can increase the risk of cross-contamination between specimens with subsequent false-positive results."
Accurate testing for COVID-19 is absolutely vital in order for health officials, civic leaders, and the public to respond to the current level of the virus with the proper steps. Pray then for much care for those administering these antigen tests, and that they would follow all of the proper procedures. Pray too that confirmatory tests would be run for all positive tests using a more accurate testing method, as recommended by the FDA.
Ps. 26:4: "Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds."
