Prayer #231: For the Record High Number of COVID-Related Hospitalizations in the U.S.
Yesterday, the number of people hospitalized in the United States for COVID-19 reached 61,964, a record high, surpassing the 59,940 people in the hospital for the virus on April 15th. To date, according to the COVID Tracking Project, a cumulative total of 500,692 people have been hospitalized for the Coronavirus. Right now, the Midwest and Texas are driving the COVID hospitalization surge. Many hospitals there are near or at their ICU capacity. There are only 7,419 ICU beds in community hospitals across the nation that are available for use for COVID; there are tens of thousands of other ICU beds, but they are reserved for those recovering from surgeries, for burn treatment, and for neonatal and pediatric care. Thus, a pandemic of this magnitude can easily overwhelm a hospital's ICU capacity.
Pray for hospitals across our nation, especially in Texas and the Midwest, as they deal with this hospitalization surge from COVID-19 outbreaks. Pray for doctors, nurses, and staff who are overwhelmed with work, and pray that enough ICU capacity can be found to treat those with severe cases of the Coronavirus and those with life-threatening complications.
Ps. 5:11: "But let all you take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may exult in You."
