Prayer #243: For Nevada As They Tighten COVID-19 Restrictions
The state of Nevada, with a population of just under 3 million people, is presently experiencing a sizable upswing of COVID-19, with daily new cases in excess of 2,500. Yesterday, Governor Steve Sisolak, at a press conference, issued what he termed a "statewide pause" for the next three weeks which goes into effect tomorrow and introduces more stringent mask requirements and new capacity limits. All residents and visitors will be required to wear a mask, whether indoors or outdoors, when in the presence of someone that is not a member of their household. No additional businesses will be closed, but occupancy at outdoor and indoor restaurants and bars will be reduced from 50% to 25%. No more than 4 people will be allowed at a table, and reservations will be required. Gyms, fitness centers, dance studios, and martial arts studios will also need to have no more than 25% capacity, and museums, art galleries, libraries, zoos, aquariums, arcades, bowling alleys, amusement and theme parks, and Nevada's casinos will also move from 50% to 25% capacity. Retail and grocery stores can remain at 50% capacity, but stores greater than 50,000 square feet must have employees at all public entrances counting the number of customers entering and leaving the store. Hair salons and barbershops can remain at 50% capacity. Public gatherings will be limited to 50 people of 25% of fire code capacity, whichever is less, under strict social distancing requirements. This includes worship services, weddings, funerals, movie theaters, live theater performances, and casino showrooms. The new size restrictions do not apply to schools, which remain open for in-person learning.
Governor Sisolak warned that if Nevada's situation does not improve after three weeks, stronger measures will need to be taken, including the closure of indoor service for restaurants and bars, the closure of gyms, and even more severe indoor and outdoor capacity restrictions. "We are on a rapid trajectory that threatens to overwhelm our health care system, our frontline workers, and your access to health care," Governor Sisolak told Nevadans. "So it's time to act."
Pray for Nevada as they go through this large acceleration of COVID-19. Pray that these measures over the next three weeks would curb the progress of the virus. Pray for the state's economy during these more severe restrictions. Pray that this would be a time that people would seek the true shelter and comfort of the Lord Jesus Christ.
