Prayer #244: For Thanksgiving During the Increase in Coronavirus
The Center for Diseases Control has issued its recommendations and guidelines for celebrating Thanksgiving in light of a fresh outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in many places across the country. They are counseling that Thanksgiving would be most safely celebrated with just those who live with you and that one refrain from traveling for the holiday. Contact with other family members and friends not living in your household would be best done virtually rather than in person, the CDC advises. Where possible and weather permitting, the CDC states, it would be best to have an outdoor meal rather than an indoor one. The number of guests should be limited to a handful (various states have put different limits on this number). In a year that celebrates the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim's landing at Plymouth Rock, this will be one of the smaller, quieter observances of Thanksgiving for many in their lifetime. But it can still be a heartfelt time of thanksgiving.
Pray for the hundreds of millions of people who will be celebrating Thanksgiving, some alone and some with small groups of family. Pray for the many who have elected to travel to see family, even with the possible risks. Pray for God's mercy and protection during this important holiday, and that thanks to God would be given by many in the midst of these trying circumstances. Pray that the COVID-19 virus would not spread further across the states through Thanksgiving travel and celebrations.
1 Thess. 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
