Prayer #271: For New Flight Bans from the United Kingdom Due to a New Strain of COVID

Dozens of countries across the globe have now banned flights to and from the United Kingdom due to the emergence of a new genetic strain of the COVID-19 virus, which has caused an acute rise in the virus in a number of areas in the U.K. The new strain or mutation of COVID-19 was first observed in the U.K. in September and has since been found to spread 70% faster than earlier variants of the virus. Health officials still believe, however, that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be effective against this new strain.

Here are the 33 countries that have thus far banned travel, as of today, to the United Kingdom. The U.S. is not yet on this list:

• Argentina
• Austria (indefinitely)
• Belgium
• Bulgaria (until Jan. 31)
• Canada
• Chile
• Colombia
• Denmark
• El Salvador
• Estonia (until Jan. 31)
• Finland
• France
• Germany
• Hong Kong
• Ireland
• India (until Dec. 31)
• Israel
• Italy (until Jan. 6)
• Jordan (until Jan. 3)
• Kuwait (until Jan. 1)
• Latvia (until Jan. 31)
• Lithuania (until Jan. 31)
• Malta
• Morocco
• Netherlands (until Jan. 1)
• Norway
• Oman
• Portugal
• Russia (for 1 week)
• Saudi Arabia (for 1 week)
• Sweden
• Switzerland
• Turkey

Continue to pray for the United Kingdom in light of the appearance of this new strain of COVID-19. Pray for the many family members and friends separated by this travel ban, especially during the holidays. Pray that the new vaccines would indeed be effective against this new COVID mutation. And pray that the new cases of COVID-19 would soon subside during this time of strict lockdown in some areas of the U.K.

Lam. 3:22-23: "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
