Prayer #275: For Christmas During COVID
In some ways, this certainly feels like a different Christmas than we have previously experienced, due to COVID. Many, due to the restrictions in place, are unable to be with some or even all of their family members on this day. Many feel isolated and depressed. Some have lost jobs due to the pandemic.
And yet . . . and yet, on this Christmas day, with the backdrop of COVID and in our place of need, we today have the opportunity to reflect more deeply on what Christmas really means. In the fullness of time, at God's perfect time, He sent His only-begotten Son to be born on this earth. To humble Himself and take on flesh. To come to save us from our sins. To love us with an everlasting love. To give us new hope. To give us new life. This is the greatest gift that has ever been given in the history of mankind!
And so on this Christmas Day, we remember that, even in the midst of a pandemic, we who have been redeemed through Christ are truly blessed beyond measure. And for this we will be eternally grateful.
Let us offer up heartfelt thanks to God for His inexpressible gift. Let us tell Him how grateful we are that He sent His Son to be born for us. With the angels let us say, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men."
Luke 2:10-11: "And the angel said to them, 'Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
