Prayer #281: For Quicker Distribution of the COVID-19 Vaccines
The U.S. government had hoped to have 20 million people receive the COVID-19 vaccines by today, the end of December 2020, but thus far just under 3 million have gotten them. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams stated that the lack of sufficient funding for health departments at the state and local level is one reason for the slower response. "There are vaccines manufactured, there are vaccines allocated, there are vaccines delivered, and there are vaccines put in arms," she said. Actual vaccinations are done primarily at the local level. "People forget that we've always underfunded public health going back several decades," Dr. Adams said. "And so chronically, we need to continue to fund state and local public health better." Governors in several states, however, are saying that federal funding is lacking, which, they say, is contributing to a widening gap between the number of vaccines that are on hand and the number of people that are receiving them.
Pray for the needed funding, at both federal and state/local levels, to ensure that the pace of vaccine distribution and that of the vaccinations themselves picks up. Pray as well for any bottlenecks to be identified and rectified that are impeding the vaccine delivery and implementation processes.
Ps. 115:1: "Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory, for the sake of Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness."
