Prayer #284: For Japan's Proposed State of Emergency Due to COVID
Yesterday, the governor of Tokyo and those of three neighboring provinces, Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa, met and emerged from their 3-hour meeting to request the national government to declare a state of emergency due to the considerable rise in COVID-19 cases, especially in urban regions. On December 31st, Tokyo experienced a record number of 1,337 cases, and Japan nationally, 4,540 cases. Thus far, the country has had about 3,500 deaths from COVID. There is also a concern for the Summer Olympics, which Japan is hosting in July, with 11,000 athletes slated to come for the games.
Up until now, Japan has not had a lockdown since the arrival of the virus this past spring."In the name of valuing life, we made this plea together," Tokyo governor Yuriko Koike stated yesterday. Medical experts are now considering the governors' request
Pray for wisdom for health and civic leaders in Japan as they consider whether to declare a state of emergency and/or impose restrictions due to the rise in COVID-19. Pray that many of this spiritually-needy nation would cry out to God in the midst of this difficult time.
Ps. 36:5: "Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds."
