Prayer #295: For the Increase of COVID-19 Cases in Arizona
COVID-19 may soon become the leading cause of death in Arizona, according to Arizona State University's (ASU) COVID-19 modeling team. On average, about 12,000 people each year in Arizona die from heart disease, and about the same number from cancer. Present estimates place the number of COVID-19 deaths since March at 10,855. "We are seeing an extraordinary number of new cases a day and that's a pretty frightening position to be in," Dr. Josh LaBaer, director of ASU's Biodesign Institute, said yesterday. Like most states, Arizona has seen a slow pace of COVID vaccinations. "I'm a little worried that everybody is seduced by the fact that there are vaccines starting to roll out. But keep in mind, the number of people getting vaccinated right now is tiny. We are vaccinating nowhere near the number of people that it would take to have an impact on the spread of the virus in our community right now." LaBaer estimated that 80% of Arizonians will need to receive the vaccine in order to prevent a future COVID-19 outbreak.
Pray for the state of Arizona as it seeks to combat this steep rise in COVID-19. Pray that the rate of vaccinations could soon increase, there and across the country, and around the world. Pray that in the meantime, careful precautions would continue to be taken on the part of everyone.
Ps. 61:3: "For You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy."
