Prayer #303: For Encouraging Signs in the United Kingdom
Health officials in the United Kingdom are encouraged by at least smaller signs that the tide may be beginning to turn in that nation's fight against a new, vigorous surge in COVID-19 due to the appearance of a new mutation of the virus back in December. To combat this, the U.K. has been in a strict lockdown since early January which requires citizens to stay at home except for limited reasons such as medical assistance, exercise, shopping for essentials, and work. This lockdown order may continue until March.
Confirmed cases of COVID-19 are down 22% from last week in the U.K., and the case rate appears to have dropped since January 10th, from 600 per 100,000 to 500 per 100,000. Though hospitals continue to deal with severe overcrowding with COVID patients and deaths continue to surge at levels not seen since last spring, there is hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thus far, about 4 million people have been vaccinated with the first dose, out of a population of 66.7 million.
Pray for the United Kingdom as it continues to battle this large surge in COVID-19. Pray that this encouraging trend in the lowering of cases would continue during this time of vigorous lockdown. Pray that vaccinations would continue without major obstacles. Pray for physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel as they provide frontline service under difficult and demanding conditions.
Prov. 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths."
