Prayer #310: For EMT and Paramedics' Exposure to COVID
COVID infection statistics for EMT personnel and paramedics are hard to find, but these frontline workers, many of whom are working very long shifts now, transporting COVID patients in addition to others via ambulance to hospitals, face an elevated exposure to the infectious virus. They are careful to wear personal protection equipment, but, says Joshua Hammond, an EMT working for an independent ambulance service in southern California, "you can only be so safe. We don't have the luxury of being 6 feet apart from the patient." Hammond and many others like him are scrambling to help very ill COVID patients get to the hospital during the spike in the virus that occurred in the greater Los Angeles area after the holidays. Ambulances are often stuck outside of hospitals for hours, waiting until there are beds available for the patients they have. And in the process of their day-to-day duties, they are continually exposed to the virus.
Today we want to lift up these frontline EMT and paramedic workers all over our nation. Pray for God's protection from infection for all of them. Pray also for their families, as they have been working grueling hours for months, nearly a year, now. We want to thank God for such dedicated people, so important now in enabling people to get to the critical health care higher risk people need when infected by COVID-19.
Ps. 34:4: "I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears."
