Prayer #333: For the Possible Establishment of Herd Immunity from COVID-19 This Spring
This past Friday, an article by a Johns Hopkins professor and surgeon, Marty Makary, was published in the Wall Street Journal, in which Makary points out that daily new COVID-19 infections have decreased by 77% since January, and that, in his opinion, the virus will have pretty much run its course by April. "There is reason to think the country is racing toward an extremely low level of infection," Makary wrote. "As more people have been infected, most of whom have mild or no symptoms, there are fewer Americans left to be infected. At the current trajectory, I expect COVID will be mostly gone by April, allowing Americans to resume a normal life." As vaccinations continue to increase, this will also contribute substantially to the demise of the virus as so-called "herd immunity"---the point where enough people in a population are immune to keep the virus from actively multiplying---is reached. "When the chain of virus transmission has been broken in multiple places, it's harder for it to spread---and that includes the new strains," said Makary. Other health officials are less optimistic concerning such a quick timetable for the end of COVID-19, believing that it won't be until fall that this will happen.
Pray that the COVID-19 virus would end sooner rather than later. Pray that indeed a herd immunity would be more quickly reached, even this spring.
Ps. 72:18-19: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be His glorious name for ever; may His glory fill the whole earth. Amen and Amen."
