Prayer #34: For the Meat Shortage Due to Coronavirus Outbreak
Due to multiple outbreaks of COVID-19 at meat-packing plants in the U.S., including Smithfield Foods, JBS, and Tyson Foods, there is a considerable shortage of available meat at grocery stores. Processing plants continue to close for a time in order that they can be decontaminated. The Center for Disease Control has issued new guidelines for these meat processing plants that include improved social distancing and increased worker separation, a re-evaluation of ventilation, and greater use of hand hygiene. Recently the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, the largest meatpacking and food processing union in the country, stated that 5,000 meat processing workers have been directly impacted by the Coronavirus, either through being tested positive for COVID-19, being hospitalized, missing work while being self-quarantined, appearing symptomatic, or awaiting test results. The union reports that ten meatpacking workers have died of the virus.
We pray today for those working in the meatpacking industry. Pray for the healing and recovery of those infected by COVID-19. Pray that these new CDC guidelines would eliminate outbreaks of the Coronavirus. Pray that the meat processing plants would be put back online quickly after all decontamination is done and safety precautions are put in place. Pray for there to be an adequate amount of meat available in the grocery stores during this time of meatpacking plant shutdowns.
Ps. 60:11-12: "O grant us help against the foe, for vain is the help of man. With God we shall do valiantly; it is He who will tread down our foes."
