Prayer #38: For the Increase in Murder in Some U.S. Cities
An increase in gun violence is leading to a spike in murders in some cities in our nation. In Cincinnati, for example, murders have more than doubled, with 28 so far this year, compared with 12 last year. Twenty-five of these 28 murders are gun-related. Other cities that have seen a rise in murders include Jacksonville, Florida, Louisville, and New York City, the last city experiencing a 67% increase in gun-related homicides. Many of these are domestic murders. With the Coronavirus restrictions, there is more tension in some households. Where there are abusive spouses, there is often little avenue for escape. Authorities believe this is a major contributing factor in the rise in murders by gunshot.
We pray that this wave of gun-related homicides would pass. Pray for city police as they respond to these incidents. Pray for protection for abused spouses and children during this time of COVID-19 restrictions when abusive spouses are at home more.
Ps. 16:1: "Keep me safe, my God, for in You I take refuge."
