Prayer #380: For Michigan's Continued Rise in COVID-19 Cases
Michigan has become a leading epicenter of COVID-19 in the United States. Currently, there are 515 cases per million people in the state, four times the rate that was seen in February. "I am quite concerned with what we are seeing in our data," stated Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. "We are on track to potentially see a surge in cases that's even greater than the one we saw in the fall." The percentage of COVID-19 tests that are coming up positive is presently 18%, a positivity rate that has not been seen in Michigan since last spring. Hospitalizations have increased there such that 15.2% of the hospital beds are being used for COVID patients. The New York Times has recently published a list of the 20 cities in the U.S. with the highest number of average daily cases of COVID-19. and there 16 of them are Michigan cities and towns: Jackson, Owosso, Detroit, Flint, Monroe, Lansing, Mount Pleasant, Bay City, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Adrian, Holland, Kalamazoo-Portage, Ionia, Midland, and Saginaw. The state of Michigan has currently 20.4% of its population fully vaccinated and 32.6% partially vaccinated, which is very much in line with the national average.
Pray for Michigan during this renewed surge in COVID-19. Pray for wisdom for civic and health officials as they consider what the proper steps to take are in light of this new increase in the virus.
Ps. 61:1 "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the LORD, 'My refuge and my fortress; my God in whom I trust.'"
