Prayer #394: For the Large Reduction in COVID-19 Hospitalizations and Deaths for Seniors 65 and Older in the U.S.
Hospitalizations in this country related to COVID-19 for seniors 65 and older have tumbled about 70% since the beginning of 2021, as vaccinations continue in the United States. This is especially encouraging because seniors have accounted for 8 in 10 COVID deaths in this nation since the virus began to ascend in the U.S. last March. Deaths from COVID-19 have plummeted to about 700 per day across the nation, compared to over 3,400 per day in mid-January. "What you're seeing there is exactly what we hoped and wanted to see," said Jodie Guest, a public health researcher at Emory University. "As really high rates of vaccinations happen, hospitalizations and death rates come down." According to the best data available, COVID-19 deaths among Americans 65+ years in age have declined more than 50% since the peak in January, which certainly vindicates the strategy of putting seniors at or near the front of the line for vaccination in the U.S. Tw0-thirds of seniors have been fully vaccinated in the U.S., versus about one-third of all adults. Over 80% of U.S. seniors have received at least one shot; 50% of all adults are partially vaccinated.
We want to thank God for this dramatic reduction in COVID hospitalizations and deaths for seniors. Pray that as vaccination continues, these downward trends in hospitalization and deaths would be seen in all age groups in our country.
Ps. 106:1: "Praise the LORD! O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever."
