Prayer #398: For the CDC's New Guidance on Outdoor Masking
The director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Rochelle Walensky gave a White House briefing today to update its guidance on the use of outdoor masks for protection from COVID-19. The new guidance is in reference to those who have been already vaccinated. There are many situations now, Walensky said, where people who are vaccinated do not need to wear a mask, particularly outdoors. According to these new CDC guidelines, people who are two weeks past being fully vaccinated should be able to attend smaller outdoor gatherings with people who are or are not vaccinated. Walensky noted that less than 10% of documented cases of COVID-19 have been traced to outside gatherings of any size, and with a steady increase of vaccination and a continued decrease in new cases of the virus, the CDC felt it was time to relax the outdoor masking requirements. The efficacy of masking outdoors has been questioned by some throughout the pandemic, especially in less-crowded situations, since the outdoor airflow is so much better than that indoors.
Continue to pray as steps are being taken, state by state, to eliminate or relax COVID restrictions. Pray that by God's grace, the virus will continue to decrease and that we will soon be able to live with no COVID restrictions.
Ps. 57:7-8: "My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Awake my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn!"
