Prayer #406: For the Shortage of Restaurant Workers as a Consequence of COVID
Restaurants have indeed been hard hit by the COVID lockdown restrictions over the past 14 months. More than 110,00o U.S. eating and drinking establishments closed in 2020, according to figures from the National Restaurant Association. Some2.5 million people lost their jobs, and revenue in the industry plummeted by $240 million. Now, as COVID restrictions are being lifted, restaurant managers are having trouble finding workers. This is a sign, many owners and operators of full-service restaurants believe, that many people have decided to not consider restaurants as possible sources of employment. "It's really understandable," Nicole Marquis, owner of nine restaurants in Philadelphia said recently in an interview. "Our employees, when we did the layoffs, has to decide, 'What are we going to do next?' and they had to look at industries that weren't shut down." In addition, some would-be workers are having to stay home while their children attend school remotely. Staffing for restaurants is down 20% from a year ago, according to the National Restaurant Association.
Pray for restaurant owners and managers across the country as they attempt to adjust to this major staff shortage. Pray for the needed recovery of the restaurant industry, the industry most negatively impacted by COVID-19.
Ps. 33:20: "Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and shield."
