Prayer #408: For the Study on At-Home COVID Testing in Pitt County
Pitt County is one of two locations in the United States participating in a national study on making available at-home testing for COVID-19, the "Say Yes COVID Test." program. "We are the first jurisdiction in the nation to participate in this program," said Dr. John Silvernail, Pitt County's director of public health. The other location is in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Located in Pitt County are Greenville and East Carolina University, and one of the largest health departments in eastern Carolina. Surrounding Greenville is a large stretch of rural farmland, another reason Pitt County was chosen. The study is being jointly conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The purpose of the study is to determine how effective free, at-home COVID tests would be in helping to prevent the spread of the virus. Major participants in this study are Latinos, of which, since many are essential workers, have worked right through the pandemic. Multi-generational Latino homes are common, along with severe reactions to COVID-19. If this trial study is successful, the NIH will decide on expanding it as soon as possible.
Pray for this study, which looks at making free COVID testing available at home. If successful, it could prove to be an important help in preventing COVID infections. Pray for the NIH and CDC as it conducts this study, and for health officials in Pitt County as they lend support.
Ps. 25:6: "Be mindful of Thy mercy, O LORD, and of Thy steadfast love, for they have been of old. "
