Prayer #418: For Continued Prayer for India During Its Major COVID-19 Surge
We want to continue to be in prayer for India, which has been enduring a massive COVID-19 surge for some weeks now. After a major spike in new cases of the virus that began in mid-March, the number of daily new cases has begun to descend after peaking on May 8. But Indian health officials are very wary about the course of COVID there and are certainly not yet declaring victory. For one thing, there is still much vaccination to go in this nation of 1.4 billion people. Presently, only about 3.0 % of the population have been fully vaccinated, and 10.4 % partially vaccinated. Vaccines remain in short supply. In addition, there are real concerns that the virus has risen faster than the capacity to test for it. This is quite likely true in rural areas, which, though India has some very large cities, is still where the majority of Indians live. It may even be true in at least some metropolitan areas. Indeed, India's health ministry officials are worried that COVID-19 is surging in the rural areas, where data reporting is much slower, even as it may be decreasing in the urban areas.
Let's keep praying for India. Pray that this huge outbreak of COVID-19 would descend quickly and soon. Pray for adequate testing capacity and for badly needed vaccine and distribution. Pray especially that God would protect the most vulnerable---seniors and those with medical conditions that put them at more risk if infected with COVID.
Ps. 18:6: "In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears."
