Prayer #42: For Sports Organizations During the Coronavirus Crisis
Sports organizations globally make up a $500 billion industry, and the effect of the Coronavirus on it has been astronomical. In the U.S., the first major event to be canceled was the NCAA basketball tournament in March. The cancellation of the Major League Baseball (MLB) and minor league seasons followed. The Summer Olympics, originally scheduled for this summer, has been pushed back for a year. The National Hockey League (NHL) has suspended its season. Whether or not the National Basketball Association (NBA) will cancel the rest of the season is up in the air. The National Football League (NFL) hopes to start on time, though if the COVID-19 virus continues unabated, this could change.
Billions of dollars of revenue are being lost due to the unprecedented Coronavirus, due to the loss of television broadcasting, commercial sponsorship and advertising, and ticket sales at venues, arenas, and stadiums. This has put athletes and tens of thousands of workers at sports facilities out of work and is having dire consequences financially for many people.
Pray for sports organizations that have been severely impacted by the Coronavirus restrictions, causing the canceling or delay of seasons. Pray especially for God's provision for the many who are out of work, including athletes and sports event workers. Pray that God would nonetheless use this situation for good, as those addicted to sports now have time to have more time with the Lord and with family and to develop other interests.
Matt 6:33: "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."
