Prayer #421: For New York City As It Reopens After COVID Restrictions
Like most cities, New York City has been under stringent COVID-19 restrictions for the long duration of the pandemic since its inception in March 2020. Now, the city is moving toward a return to normalcy. Beginning yesterday, the masking requirement was removed for most situations in New York City. Subways are now running around the clock again, and ridership is up to 40% of what it was before the pandemic, up from a low of 10%. Midnight curfews for restaurants will be removed by the end of the month, and Broadway tickets are on sale again, although the first productions will not be until September. About 80,000 city employees returned to their offices this month after a very long stretch of working remotely.
Last spring, New York City was one of the COVID hotspots in the country, with over 21,000 COVID-related deaths occurring in less than two months. Hospitals were at or over capacity with COVID patients. Now with about 47% of New York City's residents having at least one dose of COVID vaccine, people there are looking forward to a much more open summer in the city.
Pray for New York City, as well as other major U.S. cities, during this transition of reopening after a long period of COVID restrictions. Pray for vaccination to continue in these cities and that the virus would continue to subside. We thank God for His mercies as the COVID-19 virus is ebbing throughout our nation.
Ps. 73:28: "But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all Thy works."
