Prayer #52: For the Film Industry During the Coronavirus Crisis
Movie theaters have been closed since mid-March due to the onset of the COVID-19 virus, and this has thrown the film industry into a tailspin. All spring and summer movies ready for release have been delayed. Film festivals and trade shows have been canceled. New film and TV productions are now on hold. There have been, and will continue to be, it appears, sizable layoffs in the industry. Especially vulnerable are the smaller studios and independent production companies. The film industry employs over 400,000 people in the United States, everyone from studio executives, producers, screenplay writers, musicians, orchestrators, cinematographers, camera workers, editors, set designers, costume designers, prop workers, gaffers, makeup artists, graphic and special effects designers, construction workers, food preparation, and many others. Numerous people are affected.
We pray for the hundreds of thousands of people employed by the film industry. Many livelihoods have been impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak. Pray for God's provision for those who have lost jobs. Pray for wisdom and discernment for the leaders of the industry as they consider how to reopen, once they are permitted to do so. Especially, we want to pray for God to speak to the hearts of those working in some capacity in film production, especially studio executives, producers, directors, and screenplay writers, who have so much to do with what ends up on the screen. Pray for many unbelievers in this industry to be saved. We thank God and pray for the gospel-based ministry of the Hollywood Prayer Network, that reaches out and ministers to thousands in this industry.
Romans 15:13: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
