Prayer #6: For Public Health Officials
Public health officials have a very important task right now, here and worldwide. These are the people who are providing updates and forecasts on the Coronavirus. We need to lift them up in prayer because they need much insight and wisdom. Some of the prominent ones providing critical information are Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House Coronavirus coordinator, who specializes in global health and vaccine research; Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, who has advised six U.S. presidents on HIV/AIDS; Dr. William Haseltine, a former Harvard Medical School professor who was at the heart of the response to the HIV/AIDS and anthrax crises; Dr. Tom Frieden, infectious disease and public health physician and former director of the Center for Disease Control (CDC); Dr. Sam Dooley, a physician and medical epidemiologist who served for 31 years at the CDC; Dr. Jerome Adams, the former Indiana State Health Commissioner who is now Surgeon General of the United States; Dr. Eric Goosby, the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator from 2009-2013; and Dr. Robert R. Redfield, a virologist and current director of the CDC. There are a number of others as well.
Today, we pray for all the public health officials, on the federal, state and local level, as well as throughout the world, who are being asked to provide information and make prognostications to the government or media concerning the Coronavirus. Pray for God's wisdom for all of these. Pray that they would not err by being overly optimistic or by being overly pessimistic regarding this disease. Pray for God to make clear to them, even to those who do not acknowledge Him as God, what steps continue to be taken to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
Ps. 103:2-4 " 'Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy."
