Prayer #79: For the COVID-19 Vaccines Soon To Be Tested with Human Trials
Excellent progress is being made on the development of possible vaccines for the COVID-19 virus. Presently, there are at least 126 potential vaccines that are now in preclinical trials. Some of these are now about to be tested through human trials, beginning in July. One of these that looks especially promising, Ad26.COVS-S, recombinant, has been developed by the large New Jersey-based company, Johnson and Johnson. The human trials for their vaccine, originally scheduled for September, have now been moved up to next month due to the strength of the preclinical trials and the company's communications with regulatory agencies. The study will begin in the second half of July and will test volunteers in the United States and Belgium. Other companies, such as the biotech firm Moderna, will also be moving their candidates for a Coronavirus vaccine into human trials next month. A viable vaccine is seen as crucial to eradicating the COVID-19 pandemic. The President's infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is optimistic that a workable vaccine could be ready by late this year or early 2021.
Today we pray for all the research institutions that are working on a potential vaccine for the COVID-19 virus. Pray for wisdom and proper interpretation of preclinical and clinical data on the part of the scientists working on these possible vaccines. Pray that a viable, highly-effective vaccine would be developed and testing completed as soon as possible.
