Prayer #84: For Children and Teens During the Coronavirus Restrictions
Doctors and health experts are reporting that there is a real concern about the effects the COVID-19 restrictions are having on the mental wellbeing of children and teens, especially in view of the cancellation of many summer camps, and, in many places, the possible continued closing of schools in the fall. One very recent study indicated that the vast majority of public school superintendents across the nation are not yet prepared to discuss the reopening of their school systems. With children and youth isolated to a great degree from friends, some medical studies say that as many as 70% of children are experiencing regular anxiety. Being with friends and attending school is very important to a child's and teen's sense of wellbeing.
In addition, there is more tension at home, with the children and youth there most of the time, and in many cases, the parents not able to get out as much either. And, many children from low-income families are greatly in need of the school lunches that are provided each school day. Normally, when school is in session, about 29.7 million children are provided free or low-cost lunches. With the spike in unemployment due to the Coronavirus closures, this need has increased tremendously. Lack of sufficient food and nutrition only adds to a child's fears and anxiety.
Pray for the children and youth across our country as they struggle with the isolation that has come with the COVID-19 restrictions. Pray for the Coronavirus to subside so that schools throughout the nation will be able to reopen safely this fall. Pray for God to work in the hearts of our children and teens, so many of whom so desperately need to know the God of all comfort and security.
Matt. 19:14 "Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'"
