Prayer #85: For Compassion Ministries During the Coronavirus Crisis
During the time of the COVID-19-related business closures, temporary and permanent, many people have been laid off or furloughed from their jobs. This has led to a large increase in unemployment in the United States. The many compassion ministries in our area have seen greatly-increased requests for assistance for food, clothing, and many other items, plus much-need financial help for rent and utilities. It is a very difficult time for many. As of three days ago, the Food Bank of NC, on top of its normal operations, has distributed 54,000 family-sized boxes of food, with 20 meals per box. May was the largest single-month distribution in the Food Bank's 40-year history.
At With Love from Jesus Ministries in Raleigh there is a much-elevated turnout of people at its door in need of Jesus' compassionate love. WLFJ shares the gospel, prays with any that request it, and invites its guests to shop, free of charge for food, clothing, furniture, and household items. The unity of the Body of Christ is on display every day that WLFJ is open, as volunteers from many area churches serve together. Now, more than ever, visible unity in the Church needs to be seen by our community. What better place than a ministry that is loving people in Jesus' name?
Dorcas Ministries in Cary is also working hard to provide for those in need right now through its food pantry, thrift shop, financial counseling and aid, education grants, and job training. Many people who are in a very hard place are getting help.
These times during the Coronavirus are pressing these and many other compassion ministries in our region to capacity. We want to pray for them today.
We pray for the needed donations, finances, and volunteers for the compassion ministries in our area. We pray that each of them would be an encouragement to "the least of these." Pray especially for the Christian-based ministries who are giving away the Gospel of hope along with the physical items they are providing. Pray that God would watch over and provide for those who are especially in need right now due to losses of jobs.
Is. 58:10: "If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as noonday. "
