Prayer #86: For Symphony Orchestras and Musicians During the Coronavirus Outbreak
Though many businesses are now beginning to re-open after months of Coronavirus restrictions, symphony orchestras across the country remain closed. This is because the requirements of social distancing make live performing at venues very difficult and economically unviable. In addition to the major symphony orchestras in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, Cleveland, Seattle, Houston, and others, there are approximately 1,200 smaller orchestras in mid-size and smaller cities around the nation. The seasons for all of the orchestras have been canceled, and it is still uncertain when concerts can again resume. The tens of thousands of musicians in these ensembles have been thrown out of work during this period of COVID-19 restriction.
Many of these musicians, in addition to what they receive in salary for playing in the orchestras, rely as well on freelance music opportunities for their income. These jobs, many of which also involve live performance, are not, for the most part, available due to Coronavirus restrictions.
Pray for the symphony orchestras around the United States, as they continue to remain closed. Pray for the COVID-19 conditions to turn around so that concerts can once again be reinstated. Pray too for God's provision for musicians making their livelihood through music who have been severely impacted economically by this. Above all, pray for the Lord to work in the hearts of conductors, musicians, and orchestra administrators, bringing them to Himself in the midst of this difficult time.
Ps. 20:1: "May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. "
