Prayer #91: For Nuclear Power Plants During the Coronavirus Crisis
In the United States, approximately 20% of generated power comes from nuclear reactors, which produces almost a million times that of coal or natural gas per gram of fuel. The uranium oxide fuel in reactors in nuclear power plants needs to be changed out about every two years, and with workers in some plants having been infected with COVID-19, and others in quarantine at different times, the refueling schedule has been disrupted in many cases.
Refueling typically takes place in the spring or fall, when consumer power demands are at their lowest. In the U.S., thirty refueling were scheduled this spring, but due to Coronavirus disruptions, only seven have been completed. Another twenty-four are scheduled for this fall. Outages for refueling typically take about a month. The completion of these refueling is critical to ensuring that ample power will be available this summer and into the winter.
We pray today that all these remaining refuelings this spring at nuclear power plants across the nation will be able to be completed and that the ones this fall will be able to go forward as planned. Pray for the decrease and disappearance of COVID-19 infections at nuclear power plants so that they can be completely staffed. Pray for sufficient power to be available for however long the Coronavirus crisis lasts.
Is 26:4: "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock."
