Prayer #92: For the Marathon Races During the Coronavirus Crisis
Marathon races are mostly scheduled for the spring and fall when the weather is cooler. But with the advent of the COVID-19 virus this spring, and with the possibility that the virus will not have disappeared by this fall, major marathon races have already been canceled, and others remain uncertain as to whether they will take place or not. Thus far of the six major marathons worldwide, the New York Marathon, scheduled for November 1, the prestigious Boston Marathon, originally scheduled for April 20, then postponed to September 14, and the Berlin Marathon, scheduled for September 27, have all been canceled, some of these races for the only time in their history. The other three of the largest marathons---in Chicago, London, and Tokyo---are still tentatively scheduled, but may also end up being canceled. Each of these races has tens of thousands of runners. The cancellations have greatly disrupted training plans for many athletes across the world. There are hundreds of other smaller marathons that have been canceled as well. Many people working for the administration of the larger marathons have lost their jobs.
We do pray today for the athletes and workers for marathons worldwide in the wake of the cancellations of these major races. Pray for the athletes as they now attempt to see how they need to adjust their training schedules until next year. Many of the professional runners will need to now secure new funding to last until then if they are to stay in training, or they will need to instead find jobs for some time before resuming training for the 2021 races. Pray too for the many people that work in organizing these races who are now out of work. Pray for God's provision of new jobs for them.
Matt. 11:28: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
