Prayer #95: For Hurricanes During the Coronavirus Crisis
The hurricane season officially began on June 1, though the majority of major hurricanes form during August, September, and October. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has, in view of the existing COVID-19 outbreak, issued updated guidelines for when hurricanes are approaching. There is concern that a hurricane will further aggravate the already-existing shortages of some items at grocery and retail stores and create new shortages as well. The evacuation of higher-risk people for the Coronavirus will be more difficult than normal, with the added danger of getting infected with the virus. Ready access to medical care and hospitals, as well as necessary prescriptions, may become more limited. There is the real potential of crowded shelters, where social distancing is difficult or impossible. In view of all of these things, now is an important time to pray for God's mercy in holding back severe hurricanes, in a season in which 19 named tropical storms are predicted (above the average of 12), 9 of which are expected to become hurricanes (average is about 6), 4 of these which will become major hurricanes (average is about 3).
Let's begin to pray now for God to, by His mercy, to prevent tropical storms and hurricanes from forming and reaching land. Major storms could be especially devastating because of the presence of COVID-19. Pray for God's protection to those who are flood plains, living in structures susceptible to damage by high winds and water surges.
Matt. 8:27: "What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"
