Prayer #96: For Theme Parks During the COVID-19 Outbreak
Theme parks such as Disneyland, Disneyworld, the Six Flags parks, and Universal Studios, after having been closed since mid-March, had been planning to reopen in July, but with the resurgence of the Coronavirus, this has now been postponed. It has been a very hard period for these parks, during which they have had to slash capital expenditures by laying people off, canceling the development of new attractions, and reducing operating expenses wherever possible. Disney's theme park division has lost over $1 billion during the time of its shutdowns, with Disneyworld alone losing $25 million per day. Universal Studios has lost approximately $500 million.
When the theme parks ultimately do reopen, they will be doing so with significant adjustments in view of COVID-19. Food at many of them will be ordered through mobile apps and picked up through a non-contact process. Meets-and-greets and parades will be canceled. At many parks, temperatures will be taken on entry. Face masks must be worn, except by younger children. High-traffic areas will be frequently cleaned. Social distancing will be incorporated for lines for rides. Indoor performance venues will operate at limited capacity.
Pray for the many theme parks across the nation that remain closed, even as summer has begun. Pray for wisdom on the part of health and governmental authorities as to when it will be safe to reopen them. Pray for the sustaining of these parks, which employ over 200,000 people throughout the country, in the face of astronomic financial losses.
Ps. 62:11: "Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God."
