Prayer #99: For College and Professional Football During the Coronavirus Crisis
Especially in view of the upswing in Coronavirus cases, both the college and professional football seasons are in jeopardy. Just last week, it was announced that there are 23 positive tests for COVID-19 among the Clemson football players, 13 for the Texas State team, and 13 for the Kansas State team. A few NFL players have tested positive for the virus as well. Many athletic directors, coaches and team management are quite pessimistic that, with the present state of things, the seasons will begin on time this fall. Some believe that the entire season may need to be canceled. There is a difficult balance to maintain between health concerns and financial pressures. In order for the football seasons to begin as scheduled, players may have to be able to be kept in a "bubble"---that is, quarantined from outside contact except for immediate family. This would be difficult, especially for college football players, who attend classes. From a financial perspective, the financial loss, like that of Major League Baseball, whose season was canceled, would be astounding---literally billions of dollars.
Decisions will soon have to be made regarding whether or not college and professional football seasons will start or not. Pray for wisdom for all those involved in making these decisions. Pray for protection for players from COVID-19 infections. Pray especially that all involved with college and professional sports---who like all others have not escaped being impacted by the pandemic---would run to the Lord in this time of uncertainty and suffering.
Is. 43:2: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you."
